VoxFeminae is a Croatian website about women's rights, feminism, LGBTIQ+ rights, education, and the empowerment of women.
It was created by non-profit organisation K-zona, which contributes to the construction of an equal society by providing space for the affirmation, information, empowerment, education, and networking of women, young people, LGBTIQ+ people, civil society organisations, as well as all those who contribute towards achieving a society with gender equality.
VoxFeminae.net covers topics related gender equality, feminism, social inclusion, LGBTIQ+ rights, labour rights, art, media, and culture. One of its key projects, VoxFeminae Festival, has been running since 2006. The festival celebrates women's creativity in art, literature, media, the film industry, and music.
The most popular section of the website, called Fierce Women, contains more than 300 biographies of women who have significantly contributed to society, such as Simone de Beauvoir, Marija Jurić Zagorka, Rosalind Franklin, Nellie Bly, and many others.
Wondering how to make more people aware about these fierce women, Gabrijela Ivanov, founder of K-Zone and a fan of board games, came up with the idea of developing a board game. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, the organisation raised $32,000 and launched the enterprise Fierce Women d.o.o. which helped to develop and distribute the board game and other related products. The game is currently available in more than 50 bookstores and shops in Croatia, and over 1,000 copies were also made for the Italian market.
In 2019, Fierce Women won the SozialMarie prize for social innovation.
