ThePressProject (TPP) is an independent media outlet founded in 2010 that promotes original and critical reporting on a wide range of topics such as politics, society, state arbitrariness, and other issues of public interest.
In November 2015, TPP launched the 1101 platform, a subscription platform to support the journalism it produces, and became the first native digital media outlet in Greece to rely exclusively on its readers. All the information remains accessible without a paywall.
Before the subscription model, TPP was funded by the personal investments of its founder, journalist Kostas Efimeros. After he died in 2017, TPP changed its legal form, becoming a private capital company (for-profit).
Throughout the years, TPP's coverage has played a crucial role in providing an anti-report as opposed to mainstream media narratives. The organisation aims to control abuses of power and expose them by covering scandals that found very little space in the mainstream press.
TPP was the first to publish the Greek diplomatic cables from WikiLeaks and produced a successful documentary about the economic crisis (Debtocracy).
TPP collaborates with international organisations such as the European Centre for Press & Media Freedom, the Centre for Investigative Journalism, and the Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropa. Since 2015, TPP has also been collaborating with the Project Syndicate to republish analysis by relevant economists and political analysts. In 2015, it also started an exclusive partnership with the second-largest alternative TV network in the United States, the Real News Network.
TPP additionally produces a daily radio programme, making it the only independent native digital outlet in Greece with a radio broadcast. Its radio programmes are broadcast throughout Greece via terrestrial radio stations. Today, it also produces web TV. Its YouTube channel has succeeded and has more than 64,500 subscribers.
