Sinopsis aims to channel the results of academic research in sinology into the public discourse, with an emphasis on informing the media, state institutions, and those in contact with contemporary China, to support their work and decision-making.
"China is now a key factor in global development and needs to be understood in depth and context. Sinopsis pays special attention to events directly linked to the Czech Republic. Sinopsis analyses them in a global context and cooperation with a growing international network of researchers. Our work is based on the assumption that understanding the People's Republic of China is possible only through knowledge of the Chinese political system and the importance played by ideology and specific bureaucratic structures," says the director of Synopsis, Martin Hála.
Sinopsis conducts original research in dialogue with leading foreign institutions and individual researchers. The research is conducted through primary Chinese-language sources and interpreted in a cultural-historical context.
"The core of Sinopsis' work is the analysis of relevant events in the PRC and international politics concerning the PRC and the distribution of the results of this analysis through media coverage and presentations. The aim is to inform the public discourse competently through rigorous analysis, to target the general public, but also journalists, members of the non-profit sector, the state administration and politicians, who are increasingly coming into contact with China and are not always adequately prepared for it," Hála says.
The organisation has published more than 1,300 articles and has appeared in hundreds of radio and television programmes. Sinopsis leads investigative research in this field and is now a major voice in the public debate on the PRC's activities in the country and internationally.
