At the end of 2020, the CEO of the Silicon Luxembourg blog, Charles-Louis Machuron, started working with a mentor who encouraged him to create a business model to scale up his blog and turn it into a profitable media outlet. Machuron then hired a team of four journalists.
Silicon Luxembourg defines itself as an alternative media outlet, as it publishes articles, branded newsletters, and a bimonthly printed magazine distributed in over 20 countries. It produces video series and a podcast, and offers a job board and content services for other media.
The second pillar of the media outlet is its community. Silicon Luxembourg organises events such as after-work get-togethers, workshops, seminars, and CEO dinners and breakfasts. It also runs a founders' club with over 300 members, including founders, CEOs, and innovation managers. Its main revenue source relies on this club, as founders pay a fee to be part of it.
The media outlet covers technology, publishing daily information on tech events, product launches, and breaking news. About 60% of its content is original, while the rest is sponsored information.
The whole website is freely accessible, and no subscription is needed.
The articles are written in English to have a higher reach, and because 50% of the population in Luxembourg are foreigners. Tech founders and investors moving to the country can find their first opportunity to connect with other CEOs and decision-makers through Silicon Luxembourg.
