Sbunker is a blog launched in 2016 by a group of enthusiasts of the written word, critical thinking, and debate, in order to influence the reconstruction of the public sphere among ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, who represent the majority of the population. Its mission is to strengthen and promote liberal democratic values in Kosovo by influencing and shaping the public sphere.
Sbunker regularly publishes information in three different languages: Albanian, English, and Serbian.
The organisation has internal and external authors who write about various topics, including politics, education, economy, and human rights, along with analytical reports from the fields of politics, economics, and social welfare. The media outlet also has a section called Disinfo, where it discredits fake news.
In addition to informative and analytical content, from 2017 to 2022, Sbunker also implemented a project on critical thinking and organised dozens of debates with younger generations from different cities as part of the truAktiv program.
As a non-governmental organisation, Sbunker funds itself through grants from international organisations including the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF), the Civil Rights Defenders, USAID, and the Sweden Sverige, among others.
