Reporters United (RU) is a network of reporters aiming to support investigative journalism in Greece, collaborate in cross-border projects with journalists and news media outlets worldwide, and publish on its own platform the stories that struggle to find their place in the Greek press.
RU was legally registered and established a physical presence (in the Romantso incubator) in May 2019. Before this, it had begun supporting investigative journalism, networking, and collaboration between journalists in Greece. To date, all initiatives of Reporters United have been self-funded or backed by revenues from collaborations with international media.
RU is the exclusive partner in Greece of Investigate Europe, a team of journalists from 10 European countries. The organisation has also developed partnerships with non-journalism organisations, such as the Open Technologies Alliance, the Vouliwatch, the HomoDigitalis in Greece, the Arena For Journalism, the Centre for Investigative Journalism, and the Whistleblowing International Network outside Greece.
Stories by RU's reporters were published in Mediapart (France), Buzzfeed (Germany), VICE (Germany), Diario De Noticias (Portugal), Aftenbladet and Klassekampen (Norway), Open Democracy (UK), and WP Magazyn (Poland). Reporters United also collaborated on producing Eurydice Bersi's investigation Oil and Water Don't Mix, which resulted in a cover story for The Nation (USA).
The Logbook of Moria investigation, a collaboration between RU, Solomon, and Investigate Europe, was nominated for the European Press Prize 2021 and won the #IJ4EU Impact Award the following year. In 2022, Cities for rent: Investigating corporate landlords across Europe, an investigation that RU took part in along with many other media in Europe, won the Innovation Award of the European Press Prize.
In the summer of 2022, RU was one of the Greek media that revealed the persistent spyware scandal that upended the country's political landscape.
