Partizán is an independent, left-wing video site on YouTube that produces daily content on politics, social issues, and culture. Founded in 2018, Partizán offers interviews, news, profiles, debates, and analysis. The YouTube channel is funded by individual donations and media grants.
Partizán is inspired by the former YouTube channel of Partizán's founder, Slejm - politics stuck in the throat, launched in 2015.
Partizán covers essential political and social issues in long-form investigative videos. For example, it produced a series on the wealth of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's family. It has also reported on the Covid-19 epidemic, climate change, and the 2020 US elections.
"Although we are traditionally an opposition media, we try to be selective in our choice of topics, going beyond the traditional sectarian logic," its founder Márton Gulyás said.
In 2022, Partizán collaborated with 24.hu, producing programmes ahead of the April parliamentary elections. The show, called Frontline, appeared every Friday on 24.hu, YouTube, and Facebook. "This cooperation is an extraordinary opportunity for us: a confirmation that by 2022 we will be the country's leading online public affairs video channel," Gulyás said, who called it "a milestone in the history of our platform and Hungarian media".
Despite considering itself a left-wing media outlet, for many of its supporters and viewers, Partizán is what public television should be.
