Ellissi is a personal project by media innovator and strategy consultant Valerio Bassan. As a journalist, he has written for many years about the future of the media.

During the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic, he decided to share the reflections behind his strategies in a weekly newsletter on Mailchimp. He called it Ellissi (in English: ellipsis). Bassan explained: "An ellipsis is literally an omission from speech or writing of words that can be understood from contextual clues. I want my newsletter to give those contextual clues usually missing in Italy."

Ellissi aims to inform the Italian audience, naming those working in the communications industry, about the evolution of the media sector in the country. It also wants to spark a debate about the topic.

Its business model relies on advertising. In order to make the newsletter more profitable, Bassan launched a premium version in May 2021. The benefits of being a paid subscriber range from receiving the regular weekly newsletter without ads one hour in advance, to being sent an extra monthly newsletter.

Bassan is planning to close down the premium newsletter. He explained: "I do not earn a salary from Ellissi, but thanks to it, I have gained new clients and a solid reputation."
