Diskriminacija.ba is an online media outlet with a team of external collaborators: journalists, photographers, videographers, and graphic designers. It publishes multimedia information on human rights and equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The platform supports local civil society actors working to protect human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina and neighbouring countries. Diskriminacija.ba acts as a news agency for civil society, showing the activity of organisations to protect local human rights and freedoms. It nurtures long-term cooperation with the civil sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkans; the news site makes marginalised groups visible through new multimedia formats. It is funded through international and local grants from civil society organisations.
From 2014 to 2018, through the USAID-funded Equality for All programme, the company intensively promoted the state law on the Prohibition of Discrimination, monitored its application, and raised awareness of the obstacles that national, religious, and sexual minorities living in Bosnia and Herzegovina face in achieving their legal rights.
The media outlet participated in and created an online campaign that included articles, interviews, and video stories about people who felt discriminated against at work, in healthcare facilities, and in other public institutions. In addition to columns, personal testimonies, and news, the team also published a quiz called Test Discrimination, where site visitors could check how much they understand the different forms of discrimination.
The portal was established by Mediacentar Sarajevo, an independent, non-profit centre supporting the development of independent and professional journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
