Context.ro is an independent media start-up established in Romania in 2022. It seeks to cultivate and expand Romania’s community of investigative journalists by publishing journalistic investigations with a strong focus on exposing corruption, fraud, and organised crime.

“Context.ro was started out of the need for investigative reports tracking organised crime and corruption, and providing infrastructure for journalists to conduct investigations”, explains Attila Biro, journalist and co-founder of Context.ro.

Context’s main objective is to improve the standard of journalistic investigations through education, technology, and mentoring programs dedicated to reporters who want to focus on investigative journalism. It also actively promotes cross-border cooperation between investigative journalists, specifically as a member of the international network Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project.

Context.ro has already published more than 100 investigations, and its team members have participated as organisers and speakers in numerous programs focused on anti-corruption, rule of law, media development, and disinformation. Its team includes Romanian, British, and Ukrainian reporters who have received several awards for their media achievements, such as this debut investigation award received by Iulia Stănoiu.

A selection of Context’s articles is published in the English language, including all Ukrainian content.
