CAPITAL.ba is the first business-oriented media outlet in the Republika Srpska, one of the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 2007 by the Udruženje za promociju evropskih standarda i unapređenje poslovnog ambijenta (in English: Bosnian Association for the Promotion of European Standards and Improvement of the Business Environment).
The website's primary goal is to provide timely, accurate, and up-to-date information about business in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding countries, intended for business people, investors, and citizens. Today, it focuses on investigative reporting on financial flows and misuse of public money by authorities. Its revenue sources are international grants and advertising (local and national).
Using the slogan "Information is capital", which reflects its mission, the project is written and edited by a team of journalists who specialise in business and finance reporting. Most external associates are business column editors in the media where they are employed.
The editor-in-chief Siniša Vukelić won the EU investigative journalism award in 2016 for a series of stories published by CAPITAL.ba under the joint title Robbery of the Balkan Investment Bank- Bank of Srpska considered the best investigative article in Bosnia and Herzegovina. CAPITAL.ba's journalists also won awards for best investigative stories on corruption granted by ACCOUNT, an anti-corruption network of civil society actors, in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
