Basta! is a non-profit investigative media outlet launched in December 2008, covering social and environmental issues through investigations, features, and analyses. Its ambition, according to its website, is to "provide as many people as possible, with free access, keys to understanding the world, and levers to change it".
Basta! is published by the Alter-médias association, and it is funded through donations by private individuals (63%) and foundations (26%).
Basta! aims to be a media outlet of transformation; it seeks to produce and publish information of general interest and accessible to all. The organisation's goal is to educate people through journalism, motivate citizens to take action and publish different stories and analyses. It strives to contribute to a social, ecological, and economic transformation of our societies.
The media outlet has helped to launch the Observatoire des multinationales (since May 2022 it is no longer managed by Alter-médias) and the portal Médias Libres, which offers a review of articles published by independent media on social, ecological, and democratic "transformation". The editorial staff of Basta! selects the pieces and publishes thematic dossiers and news on social movements.
Basta! has initiated the House of Free Media project to unite several independent media in Paris and strengthen cooperation and collective projects.
